What Does the Switch on the Side of my SPYZ Camera do?

You’ve probably noticed the little switch on the side of your recorder and wondered what it does? This guide will explain.

Make sure you have your SPYZ product with you, fully charged and ready to go with correctly formatted SD Card

Our SPYZ recorder range, such as the SPYZ15 or SPYZ16, are fantastically versatile pieces of kit. As well as being able to customise them to record on triggers like motion and sound, and schedule them to only record during certain hours of the day, they also come with a couple of built in modes that could get you up and running almost instantly. These are selected via the Mode Switch on the side of the unit.

Now we’ll go into some detail as to what each mode does…

So to the far left we have the ‘Eye Symbol‘ which is the Surveillance Mode. When your SPYZ recorder is in this mode it will record at the highest possible video quality at the highest frame rate to give you a nice smooth image, but at a lowest resolution your recorder does to conserve storage space. It will record continuously while powered on, and overwrite old footage with new footage once the SD card gets full up. The microphone is enabled so it will also be recording audio, and the LED on the side of the unit will flash to indicate it is recording. The unit will be locked in ‘Day Mode’ so isn’t suitable for low light environments. The date and time will be stamped on the footage to aide use as evidence if needed.

This mode is ideal for when you want to just leave it recording continuously, getting as much footage as possible on the SD card, and don’t have to worry about it stopping when the card runs out. We’d recommend you use as large a capacity SD card as possible to get the maximum amount of days before it starts recording over the oldest footage. It will only stop recording once the battery runs out, so if you have it connected to the mains power supply, it will keep recording forever.
In the middle position is the ‘Running man symbol‘ which is the On-the-go Mode. When your SPYZ recorder is in this mode it will record at the highest possible video quality at the highest frame rate to give you a nice smooth image, and at the highest resolution possible, to get the sharpest image possible. It will record continuously while powered on and stop recording once the SD card gets full. The microphone is enabled so it will also be recording audio, and the LED on the side of the unit will flash to indicate it is recording. The unit will be locked in ‘Day Mode’ so isn’t suitable for low light environments. The date and time will be stamped on the footage so you know exactly when the memories were recorded.

This mode is ideal for using the camera in an action camera type of scenario, where image quality is of most importance, and you don’t want to risk having footage overwritten when the SD card gets full.
The far right position is the ‘Cog symbol‘ which is the Custom Mode. When your SPYZ recorder is in the mode it will use the settings that have been configured via the PC Widget software.

When configured via the Widget software, the world is your oyster!…, well in terms of SPYZ recorder configuration options anyway. You can record on a number of different trigger modes such as when motion is detected, turn of the LED on the side of the unit for extra discreet use, as well as loads of other configuration options.
